WhatsApp basics
WhatsApp Business, WhatsApp Web, and the desktop app
The Business phone app, WhatsApp Web in a browser, and the desktop app are different surfaces. A browser extension only acts on the web page you open.
These names are often used as if they describe one product. They do not. WhatsApp Business is a phone app for business accounts, WhatsApp Web is a browser view of a linked account, and the desktop app is a separate installed client.
The distinction matters when you add a browser extension. It can only work where the browser runs, and it cannot change what the phone app does.
Three surfaces, three scopes
WhatsApp Business is a phone app for business accounts. The tools available inside it depend on the region and the account. WhatsApp Web opens at web.whatsapp.com and shows a linked account in a browser tab.
The desktop app is a separate client installed on Windows or macOS. It is not the browser, and it does not load Chrome extensions.
- WhatsApp Business: the phone app for a business account.
- WhatsApp Web: the linked account in a browser tab.
- Desktop app: a separate installed client.
What a browser extension can touch
inWind WA Helper runs in desktop Chrome 120 or later on WhatsApp Web. It reads the message you select in that tab and shows a result in the page or side panel.
It does not load inside the WhatsApp Business phone app, and it does not load inside the separate desktop app. Those are different processes with different extension models.
Using a Business account on WhatsApp Web
Many business accounts can open WhatsApp Web by linking the phone, the same way a personal account does. When that web session is open, the extension's message menu is available for the messages shown there.
Business-specific tools may differ by account, region, and rollout. The extension does not promise to translate catalog entries, labels, or automated messages, and it does not use private WhatsApp interfaces. Check what your own account shows in the browser before depending on it.
What stays out of reach
Anything that exists only in the phone app stays there. The extension cannot read notifications, background messages, or the phone's message store.
It also does not manage your business profile, catalog, or broadcast lists. Its scope is the open web chat and the single message you act on.
Choosing the surface for the task
Use the phone app to set up the account, manage the business profile, and reply on the move. Use WhatsApp Web when you want a keyboard, a larger screen, and several chats side by side.
Use the extension when you need to read a selected message in another language. If the same work happens on a phone, the Android app or the iOS shortcut is the matching tool, not the browser extension.
Do it on your device
Web
- Open WhatsApp Web in desktop Chrome 120 or later and link the business account from the phone.
- Click the dropdown arrow beside a message, or right-click the message, and choose the extension action.
- Read the result in the side panel or below the message.
The extension runs only in the browser tab. It does not load in the WhatsApp Business phone app or the separate desktop app.
iPhone
- Open the business chat in the WhatsApp Business app on iPhone and long-press one message, image, or audio file.
- Choose Share, then select the inWind shortcut.
- Copy the result and return to the business chat.
The phone app is not a plugin host. The shortcut handles one shared item at a time.
Android
- Long-press one message, image, or audio file in the WhatsApp Business app and choose Share.
- Select inWind from the Android system share sheet.
- Copy the result and return to the business chat.
The Android app is a separate native app. It does not modify WhatsApp Business or read its message database.
