How a Chrome extension translates WhatsApp Web messages
A Chrome extension translates the WhatsApp Web message you select. It does not scan chats, send messages, or run inside the phone app.
If you work at a desk, WhatsApp Web is often the main window for customer conversations. Messages arrive in languages you may not read fluently, and switching tabs to translate one sentence breaks the flow.
inWind WA Helper is a Chrome extension for that window. It adds translation, transcription, and image understanding to the message you select, and it leaves everything else on the page alone.
What the extension adds to the page
The extension runs in a side panel and in the WhatsApp Web message menu. When you open the menu on an incoming message, you see entries for that message: translate or summarize text, understand a single image, or transcribe a voice note.
The result appears in a compact card below the message. The original stays visible, so names, amounts, model numbers, and dates can be checked side by side.
- Text: translation and summary.
- Single image: image understanding.
- Voice note: transcription, or transcription plus translation.
What it deliberately does not do
The extension does not scan your chat list, contacts, or message history. It does not call private WhatsApp interfaces and does not send messages on your behalf.
It reads the one message you clicked. Auto-translate is a separate switch, off by default; when you enable it, it processes only incoming messages currently visible in the open chat. That boundary is the reason the extension can stay small and predictable.
- No bulk export of conversations.
- No automatic replies.
- No processing of chats that are not open.
Install it and check the basics
Use desktop Chrome 120 or later. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store, open web.whatsapp.com, and link the device with your phone as usual.
Pin the extension so the side panel is one click away. In the side panel settings, choose the interface language and the translation target. These are separate settings: the interface can be Chinese while the target is English, or the reverse.
- Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open WhatsApp Web in a desktop Chrome tab.
- Link the device from WhatsApp on your phone.
- Open the message menu and choose an action.
The phone app is a different surface
WhatsApp Web mirrors your conversations, but the extension only runs in the browser tab. It does not install into the WhatsApp app on Android or iOS, and it does not change how the phone app behaves.
If you reply from your phone, the translation card stays in the browser. If you need translation on the phone, use the Android app or the iOS shortcut instead of expecting the extension to follow you.
When the extension is not the right tool
The extension is built for reading selected messages during desk work. It is not a bulk translation tool, a CRM sync, or an archive. It will not translate a whole conversation for export.
If you only use WhatsApp on a phone, install the Android app or use the iOS shortcut. If you need a complete record of every message, use a workflow built for that purpose. The extension keeps up to 500 local results for reuse, expiring after 90 days, and that is not a chat archive.
Do it on your device
Web
- Install inWind WA Helper from the Chrome Web Store in desktop Chrome 120 or later.
- Open web.whatsapp.com and link your phone as usual.
- Click the dropdown arrow beside a message, or right-click the message, and choose translate, summarize, image understanding, or transcription.
- Read the card below the message and compare it with the original.
The extension runs only in the browser tab. It does not scan other chats and does not send messages.
iPhone
- Long-press one text message, one image, or one audio file in WhatsApp and choose Share.
- Select the inWind shortcut, then choose the interface language and translation target on first run.
- Sign in to the official service account and enter the one-time binding code from the desktop account page.
- Copy the result and return to WhatsApp.
The iOS shortcut is a separate share entry, not the Chrome extension.
Android
- Long-press one text message, one image, or one audio file in WhatsApp and choose Share.
- Select inWind from the Android system share sheet.
- Read the result in the app, copy the text you need, and return to WhatsApp.
The Android app is a separate native app, not the Chrome extension. Interface language and translation target are separate settings.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work in browsers other than Chrome?
The extension targets desktop Chrome 120 and later. Other Chromium browsers are not a supported target.
Does it read my other chats?
No. The message menu reads only the selected message. Auto-translate, when enabled, reads only incoming messages visible in the open chat.
Can it send a reply for me?
No. It prepares text for review. You send every message from WhatsApp yourself.
Does it work with WhatsApp Business?
It works on WhatsApp Web in Chrome. If your Business account opens the same web app, the message menu is available there. Check on your own account before relying on a specific feature.
