Translate WhatsApp messages on iPhone with a shortcut

iPhone has no native WhatsApp translation. An iOS shortcut translates the single message, image, or audio file you share. It does not read chats.

WhatsApp on iPhone has no built-in translation. The usual workaround is copying text into another app, which is slow for images and impossible for voice notes without extra steps.

inWind WA Helper offers an iOS shortcut instead. You share one message, image, or audio file to the shortcut, and it returns the text you need. It does not attach to the WhatsApp chat.

Why there is no in-chat button on iOS

iOS apps are sandboxed. A third-party tool cannot inject a menu into WhatsApp the way a browser extension can in a desktop tab. The product therefore does not claim to be an iOS chat plugin.

The shortcut uses the system share sheet, which is the supported way for one app to hand content to another. You stay in control of what leaves WhatsApp.

Share one item to the shortcut

Open the message in WhatsApp, long-press it, and choose Share. Pick the inWind shortcut from the share sheet.

The shortcut handles one item at a time. A shared album, a forwarded chat export, or a whole conversation is not the input it expects.

  1. Long-press a text message, one image, or one audio file.
  2. Choose Share.
  3. Select the inWind shortcut.
  4. Read the result, then return to WhatsApp.

What you need before the first run

The shortcut uses the official service at wa.inwindoverseas.com. You need an account, created by scanning a WeChat QR code on the account page, and a wallet balance for model usage.

Binding is a one-time step: the desktop account page issues a code valid for 15 minutes and usable once. After binding, the shortcut can submit content tasks with its own credential.

On first run, the shortcut asks for the interface language and the translation target language. They are separate: the menus can be English while translations go to Chinese.

What the shortcut will not do

It does not read your WhatsApp chats in the background. It has no access to the message database, does not monitor new messages, and does not send replies.

Only the item you share is submitted. Voice is recognized asynchronously, and supported formats are OGG/Opus, MP3, WAV, and M4A. Other audio formats are rejected with a clear message. Text and image tasks wait up to about eight seconds; a slow task returns an ID that the shortcut polls.

Where it fits and where it does not

The shortcut is useful when a customer sends one long message, one product photo, or one voice note and you need to understand it before replying from your phone.

It is not a replacement for the desktop extension if you handle many conversations at a desk. It also does not translate a live conversation automatically; each item is a deliberate share.

Do it on your device

Web

  1. Install the extension in desktop Chrome 120 or later and open web.whatsapp.com.
  2. Link the device from WhatsApp on your phone, then open the side panel or the message menu.
  3. Select the message and choose translate, summarize, image understanding, or transcription.

The web path reads only the selected message. It does not scan chats or send replies.

iPhone

  1. Create an account on the official service page by scanning the WeChat QR code, and keep a wallet balance for model usage.
  2. On the desktop account page, generate a one-time binding code valid for 15 minutes and enter it in the shortcut.
  3. Long-press one text message, one image, or one audio file in WhatsApp and choose Share, then select the inWind shortcut.
  4. Choose the interface language and translation target on first run; copy the result and return to WhatsApp.

The shortcut handles one item per share. It does not read chats, monitor new messages, or send replies.

Android

  1. Long-press one text message, one image, or one audio file in WhatsApp and choose Share.
  2. Select inWind from the Android system share sheet.
  3. Copy the result and return to WhatsApp.

The Android app is the equivalent share-based surface. Interface language and translation target are separate settings.
