Translate WhatsApp voice notes without replaying them ten times
Transcribe a WhatsApp voice note, translate it, and keep the raw transcript. Supports OGG/Opus, MP3, WAV, and M4A voice notes.
Voice notes carry tone, but they are slow to review and impossible to search. A customer sends a two-minute update in Portuguese, and you need the delivery date, the quantity, and the next step.
The extension transcribes the selected voice note, optionally translates the transcript, and keeps the original wording available for checking.
Why voice is harder than text
A voice note has to be recognized before it can be translated. The source language, audio quality, background noise, and codec all affect the transcript.
The extension uses the voice service configured for speech recognition, then sends the transcript to the text model for translation. Normal correction and translation share one text-model call.
Transcribe first, then translate
Open the message menu on the voice note. Choose transcription to read the original transcript, or transcription plus translation to get both.
The card shows the transcript and the translation separately. If the raw transcript differs from the cleaned version, you can expand the raw text and compare.
- Selecting a different source language does not call the service.
- Confirming re-transcription calls the speech service and may incur a charge.
- Switching the translation language only calls the text model; the audio is not transcribed again.
Choose the source language when you know it
Automatic detection is convenient, but a known source language gives the recognizer a better starting point. Select the language in the card before confirming re-transcription.
When the transcript looks wrong or the language does not match the selected source, the card may show a language hint. The hint is advisory; it does not change the result.
Check names, numbers, and dates against the audio
Speech recognition can confuse product codes, names, and similar-sounding numbers. Open the original audio and check anything that affects price, quantity, or delivery.
The extension reads only the voice note you selected. It does not enumerate other messages or download other voice notes.

Frequently asked questions
Which audio formats are supported?
The standard voice service supports OGG/Opus, MP3, WAV, and M4A. WhatsApp usually sends OGG/Opus or M4A. Other formats are rejected explicitly; convert them first.
Can I translate without re-transcribing?
Yes. When a transcript is already available, switching the translation language only calls the text model. The audio is not submitted again.
Does it read my other voice notes?
No. It reads only the voice note you selected, using the page player or the media cached for that message. If the audio cannot be read, you can choose a local file.
