Translate WhatsApp messages on Android through system share
The Android app receives one shared text, image, or audio file and returns a translation. It is not a WhatsApp plugin and does not scan chats.
On Android, inWind WA Helper is a native app built with Kotlin Multiplatform. It does not attach to WhatsApp and does not ask for access to your chat database.
You send it one item through the system share sheet: a text message, a single image, or an audio file. It returns a translation, a transcript, or an image reading that you can use in your reply.
A native app, not a plugin
The Android build is a standalone application with its own interface. It is not an Xposed module, an accessibility overlay, or a modified WhatsApp client.
That design keeps the boundary simple. The app sees only what you share with it, and WhatsApp keeps running as the official app.
Share one message into the app
Long-press a message in WhatsApp and choose Share, then select inWind from the Android share sheet. For an image, share the single photo rather than an album. For voice, share the audio file.
The app shows the result on its own screen. Copy the text you need and return to WhatsApp to write the reply yourself.
- Long-press a text message, one image, or an audio file.
- Choose Share.
- Select inWind from the system share sheet.
- Copy the result and return to WhatsApp.
Interface language and target language
The app has two language settings. The interface language switches menus and labels between Chinese and English. The translation target language decides what language results come back in.
They are independent. An English interface can translate into Chinese, and a Chinese interface can translate into Spanish. Changing the interface does not change the target.
What the app does not do
It does not read chats automatically, does not run in the background watching new messages, and does not send messages for you. There is no bulk import of conversations.
Voice recognition is asynchronous. Supported formats are OGG/Opus, MP3, WAV, and M4A; other formats are rejected. Text and image tasks wait up to eight seconds, and a slow one returns a task ID for polling.
When to use the desktop extension instead
The Android app is built for one shared item at a time. If you answer many customers from a desk, the Chrome extension works inside WhatsApp Web and keeps the original message in view.
If you work on an iPhone, the iOS shortcut fills the same role as the Android app. Each surface is installed separately, so check the language settings on the device you use.
Do it on your device
Web
- Install the extension in desktop Chrome 120 or later and open web.whatsapp.com.
- Link the phone, then open the side panel or the dropdown arrow menu beside a message.
- Choose translate, summarize, image understanding, or transcription for the selected message.
The web extension keeps the original message visible. It does not scan chats or send replies.
iPhone
- Long-press one text message, one image, or one audio file in WhatsApp and choose Share.
- Select the inWind shortcut; on first run choose the interface language and translation target.
- Copy the result and return to WhatsApp.
The iOS shortcut is the equivalent share-based surface on iPhone. Each device keeps its own language settings.
Android
- Long-press one text message, one image, or one audio file in WhatsApp and choose Share.
- Select inWind from the Android system share sheet.
- Read the result on the app screen and copy the text you need.
- Return to WhatsApp and write the reply yourself.
Set the interface language and translation target separately; changing one does not change the other.
